Postconsidering getting a wii sometime soon....

so... do you guys think this is a good idea? i really wanted one of the newer consoles, and i REALLY want to try skyward sword *points to avy, is a HUGE mega drooling zelda fan*. a ps3 would be my first choice, but they're about three hundred bucks, twice that of the other two! and i've never really liked the microsoft stuff all that much, so the wii seems like the best choice. and i'm really kind of a casual gamer, and my ps2 keeps boring me out of my mind, i hardly ever play it. the wii would have zelda games to keep me occupied, and i love some of the mario series too (like mario party and mario kart).

do you all think it's worth it? does it have a lot of good games, or just a few good ones? what are some good games for the wii, especially rpg's?

ima get some money for christmas, and i got a raise at work recently, and whenever i get money, i must spend it! >8D

foxy... your youtube videos torture me. ;_;

considering getting a wii sometime soon.... :: Comments

Wii sucks. >_> I only use it for like 5 games. Other games I had I got bored of and turned them in to Gamestop long ago or just stopped playing them. That being said... Skyward Sword is soooooo good. D: Idk if I would suggest getting one just to play that though. If you're looking for RPGs PS3 probably has a better selection. Although PS2 RPGs > all. Mario games don't really appeal to me anymore. I got Mario Galaxy and got bored with it pretty quick, Mario Party games never interested me, and Mario Kart on Wii I never got cause I heard they simplified it compared to the Gamecube one to appeal to casual gamers more (smh so much at Nintendo for that >_>). Only ones besides Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword on there that I like enough recommend are Super Smash Bros. Brawl and No More Heroes 1 and 2. Not really sure you'd like those last 2. >_> Oh and a 160GB PS3 only costs $250 and if you really want motion control games can get a PS3 Move bundle for $100 more. >_>

Spoiler:

i would love to get a ps3, but it's way out of my price range. i could use that $150, you know? XD i don't really need all that many games since i'm a crazy 100% completionist. i'd probably get twilight princess and even windwaker in addition to skyward sword to amuse myself with those, it's been ages since i've played a zelda game. also my stepmom had an irrational hatred of video games and my brother is a game hog, so i never got any real sidequest completion on either one of those. XD

*looks up no more heroes* that actually looks kind of good... @.@

i've played so much ssb with my brother that i hate it now... but the mario kart and mario party games look good. maybe metroid too, even though i suck at first person shooters.

is no more heroes an rpg, sort of? O.o
*may or may not have bought a wii last week* >.>

PS3 would be my first choice too, since I am one of those crazy completionist people and I love rpgs. But the wii was alot cheaper and I really want skyward sword >.> Enough to buy to buy the wii. Personally I can't see there being alot of games that I would play for wii, but there are enough that it would be worthwhile for me. I already have a couple games like Fire Emblem (soooo good) and Tales of Symphonia 2 (meh) and you can always use the will for gamecube games too.

My overall opinion is that there probably won't be a ton of games to play, especially for rpg people like us, but I think there are enough to make it worthwhile to buy. Especially if you're a casual gamer. Or if you're crazy like me and would think it's worthwhile to have just for a handful of good games.
i am crazy like you, val! and now i don't feel so bad buying a wii when the wii u will probably come out just next year. XD

i've never tried fire emblem or tales of symphonia, even though i heard they were good. i forgot about them.

thanks! *glomps* yeah, i'm seriously considering it... curse you, skyward sword for being so tantalizing! D:<
It's open world action game. :O It's really fun and the story and characters are really crazy and cool. Definitely one of my favs. Travis Touchdown = one of the most awesome characters ever. >_> I wanna play now that I'm thinking of it. <_<
Here's a review for 1.

And one for 2.
Oh and Xenoblade is coming to Wii next year too and that's supposed to be really good RPG. >_>
IT IS?!?! I've heard xenoblade is amazing. Must has @_@

And yesh, you should try fire emblem especially Vii. Symphonia is good too, but the first one is way better. I'm sure there are lots of games like that out there. There's also Okami if you haven't played it on PS2 and it's easily one of the greatest games I've ever played. I'm sure you'd find stuff.
i've never played okami either... @.@ *now wii = DO WANT*
http://fiftypercentmedia.com/p/24/PlayStation%203%20160GB%20System-%252d%252d-3VF0O003IHB6U499.html

you can easily find cheap playstation 3 systems if you look, and theres soooooooooo many more good games on that system. trust me when i tell you, you will get bored of the wii, real quickly. if you absolutely HAVE to play skyward sword, then by all means, get the wii, however, if your looking to the future, get the ps3.
i really would get a ps3... but any way i do it, it's way expensive. i'd have to pay a bunch of shipping and handling fees on that along with the cheap price.... i know there must be tons of better games for the ps3, but it's just way out of my price range. i could just waltz in to gamestop and but a wii or xbox for a hundred bucks, but i'd have to buy a ps3 online for $135 and pay like forty or fifty bucks to ship it. x.x plus i live in a huge apartment building, i'd worry about such a large package getting stolen or lost.

i certainly don't have to get skyward sword or anything... i could not get a wii at all, or i could try an xbox. but i've amused myself playing other zelda games and getting everything on games like mario party and super smash brawl (my brother and i used to have a wii back when i lived with my family, and i liked it). it wouldn't take too many games to keep me happy since i'm an insane, neurotic 100% completionist.

maybe if the ps3 were to go down a lot, i would get one, but it's way too much for me now. x.x and i'm not even totally sure i want the wii... XD

Well, the Wii does have a lot of casual games. I have heard skyward sword was very good also. And yes, Xenoblade is confirmed for launch stateside.
I also HIGHLY recommend Okami. It was a fantastic game! and if you get one with the original case, tell me, because there's a funny secret on the cover.

Tales of Symphonia 2 was heralded as the second worst game in the Tales series. On the other hand, Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube was much better, so i say go try that one if your interested in a Tales game on that console.

Also there is the Nintendo online store, which does provide exclusive titles.

If you are planning on buying a Nintendo Wii for backwards compatibility, be warned, the most recent models have removed that feature. The new black Nintendo Wii Super Mario bundle that retails at 150.00 is one of those Wii's.

So if you plan on buying GameCube games for use on it, don't grab that version of the console.

No more heroes is also a pretty decent series of games.

The following is a list of all rpgs on the wii, and gamecube.

•Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos origins GameCube
•Fire Emblem is also an excellent series.GameCube/Wii
•Final Fantasy IV After Years Wii
•Phantom Brave which is an SRPG Wii
•Monster Hunter Tri Wii
•Dragon Quest X is an upcoming mmorpg for the nintendo Wii
•Dragon Quest Swords Wii
•Arc Rise Fantasia Wii
•Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Wii
•Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers Wii
•Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon Wii
•Paper Mario series Wii/ GameCube
•Skies of Arcadia Legends GameCube

Recommended non rpg games to try are
•Legend of Zelda: Collectors edition GameCube
•Legend of Zelda 4 Swords Adventures GameCube
•Castlevania Judgment
•Metroid series
•Muramasa: The Demon Blade <- is an action rpg
• Kirby Return to Dream land

Also, gamefaqs has the last story ( a game developed by the original creator of final fantasy) listed for a possible release date in the usa as well, though it has not been confirmed yet.
And on the nintendo wii shop, you can buy chrono trigger, and many final fantasy classic games.

Hope the list helps!

Oh and if your looking to buy games you can't find at gamestop or normal stores like walmart, try here http://www.estarland.com/index.asp?page=DefaultPage

its a great option if you don't want to use ebay, amazon, or half.com that is.

@.@ wow, ghal! the expert has spoken! haha thanks a lot! and i'll definitely keep the backwards compatibility thing in mind if i decide to get one, i had no idea they did that. O_O but i'll probably be buying the cheapest used one i can get, so it'll probably be the old model.

thank you, that was really helpful. n.n *glomps* <3
Anytime Vii. Glad that it did you some good.
Just get a PS3. Save for it.
I would hold off on that for the moment. Recently since the 4.00 firmware update's release, there have been loads of reports regarding many issues. I just made a news article about it here: http://aniworlds2.forumotion.com/t342-400-firmware-update-bricks-ps3-s

Sad thing is, one of my consoles is also a victim. It was a 320 GB slim model, and it bit the dust following a corrupted hard disk drive due to the update. It was not ever 2 years old yet. T_T
It will probably be fixed long before she's saved up for it. If not she can just wait? Thanks for telling me though, I wont update for now.
